Event description

FALL - UTILITY POLE BROKE

Investigation abstract

A power line crew was removing conductors from a utility pole. One of the conduc tors slipped loose from a grip the employees were using and fell to the ground. It became stuck between the cab and the bed of a glass hauling truck that was tr aveling down the street. The truck pulled the conductor with it, causing the top 5.8 meters (19 feet) of the pole to break off. One of the power line workers wa s belted to the pole and fell with it to the ground. He landed on his upper tors o. He was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries nearly 9 mont hs after the accident, on August 6, 1990 at about 8:30 PM.
