EMPLOYEE SLIPS INTO HOT PULP BURNING LEFT FOOT
Investigation abstract
The #3 Thickener had stopped at the 20 foot pulper which mixes the paper making stock at 140 degrees or hotter. Employee #1 went to close the thickener gate. Em ployee #1 put his left foot on the flat part of the vat which was covered with w et pulp. As Employee #1 put the gate handle down, his left foot slipped into the 18 inch deep mixture. Employee #1 withdrew his foot and pulled off his shoe and sock quickly but had received 2nd degree burns. There was no railing on the sid e where he slipped and the toe board was only 1.5 inches above the runoff surfac e.
