Final narrative
An employee was repairing the pour spout on a furnace. He had stepped over and was straddling the spout when his foot became caught on the edge of the furnace lid. He lost his balance and fell backwards into the furnace slag pit, suffering multiple fractures to his back and ribs. He was hospitalized.
