An employee was standing on the intermediate platform on the 22nd floor, holding the end of a concrete chute. He was casting the lower section of a set of stairs which spanned between the 22nd and 23rd floors. The concrete chute hung from a concrete hopper that was set up on the 27th floor, and consisted of a series of chutes fastened to one another by interlocking chains on either side. The employee felt a violent jerk and the chute, which was filled with concrete, slammed into his right knee and leg. He lunged forward and fell down to the framed lower stairs. The rest of the chutes continued to fall from above. The employee sustained a fractured femur and was hospitalized.
