Contact incidents unspecified · Fractures

An employee was monitoring the offloading of a substructure for a drilling rig. A tandem truck driver backed up to the substructure and the employee helped set the drop-deck trailer and attach the tandem truck's bridal to the load. The employee then positioned himself on the driver's side of the truck to act as a spotter and manipulate the pop-up load rollers of the drop-deck trailer. As the load was being pulled from the trailer, the walking foot door was pulled against a load guide pin on the trailer. When that tension on the door released, it swung and struck the employee, causing him to strike another substructure component that was next to the load being offloaded. The employee was crushed between the two components and sustained injuries to their head, face, and upper torso, as well as fractured ribs.
