Before the incident

I tested the battery 's and received a reading of 8.7v on one and 13.8v on the other indicating that the closest battery to me was below voltage and needed replacement. I used my small crescent wrench and attached the wrench to the negative cable connection and tightened one full turn on the nut connected to the lead clamp attaching it to the battery post. I then readjusted and began to cinch down for the final connection when the battery blew up.
