Providing medical care to patient during emergency medical call in a home with hoarding conditions. Alternating between squatting and kneeling on the floor because of tight space around patient due to excessive clutter. Patient was uncooperative and agitated causing paramedic to do lots of reaching and repositioning. Gurney could not gain access because of clutter.

While positioning herself behind the patient in an attempt to assist the patient to their feet the paramedic positioned herself behind the patient in a squatting position to be able to lift with her legs and assist the patient to their feet. Once standing the paramedic immediately noticed pain in her left lumbar sacral area that worsened when she walked.
