Employee was removing trash from the vehicle maintenance building and transferring to the dumpster on the exterior of the building.

While working at the vehicle maintenance facility labor custodian was taking out the trash in the parking lot. While walking he slipped on black ice that was covered by snow. He fell on his side and knee (management wasn 't sure which knee or side). He then reported the incident to supervisor on duty and proceeded to go to emergency room. Employee reported doctor has him off for next 3 days. Winter cleats are provided but the employee wasn 't wearing them at the time of the incident. Due to staffing issues the parking lot hadn 't been salted yet and the area is lit but not well lit. Management isn 't sure if proper footwear was worn.
