Before the incident
I was finishing an ultrasound guided thoracentesis procedure. I had to transfer fluid from syringe to vials to send into the lab. The fluid would not go into the vials. They are vacuum suctioned and usually it sucks it right into the vials. I switched needles to a larger size 3 times to try and get it to work. On the last switch I poked my finger pulling the needle pulling it out of the vial. I immediately went and washed my hands with soap and water and also squeezed out the blood.
