What happened
Writer was assisting with a postpartum hemorrhage. CNM called for IM pitocin to be given. Writer gave IM pitocin in patients right anterior thigh. Writer had thought they had closed the safety on the needle when cleaning up supplies on the patients bed. Writer then poked self with IM needle in left middle finger. Writer noticed and cleansed the sight and let charge nurse know. Writer then called the ouch line and followed the protocol for a needle stick with the house supervisor.
