What happened
The carousel (top part of the iv pole where everything hangs) slid down into the bottom portion of the pole unexpectedly. I was holding pole with my right hand using left hand to turn the tube to get it in the place. Right thumb was smashed - had to use left hand to lift the pole back into place.
