Before the incident
He mounted a foam saw blade-side-up in a vice. He took an inexpensive knife sharpener and ran it down the blade to sharpen it - a routine task. The sharpener slipped out of his hand as he was making a pass over the blade. His hand struck the blade and cut through his gloves on the index and middle fingers
