Lighting the burners on the grill

What happened

[REDACTED] lifted the lid of the grill. Turned the propane tank on that is attached to the grill. Turned the far left knob to turn gas on for burner and tried to light it with the hand lighter and it didn 't light. Then turned the 2nd to the left knob to turn the gas on to light the 2nd to the left burner used the hand lighter and a large flame came out of grill.
