Giving a patient an IM injection

Was covering break for the nurse in charge of psych pod in report off going nurse stated that patient had been agitated and that IM [REDACTED] was pulled up and ready to go in case patient had an outburst. Patient then became increasingly aggitated and disruptive jumped onto the stretcher and tried to pull the IV pole attached to the stretcher off while yelling I need to defend myself. Patient also yelling I haven 't threatened anyone while continuing to try to pull off IV pole. Security was called to the scene and restrained patient. This RN then used the prepared IM injection to medicate patient. This RN then withdrew the needle after injection and noticed the needle was bent. This RN realized that the needle was the wrong size too small for IM and as this RN attempted to engage the safety the needle stuck this RN. RN [REDACTED] S asked for the needle to remove it from situation and was stuck before this RN could warn her of bent needle.
