Before the incident

The TM was assembling a mobile frame for an accordion door. The mobile frame was primarily constructed or 1.5 X 1.5 square tube steel that needed to be bolted together in various locations. The TM had been drilling out an existing 3 8 clearance hole with a 1 2 drill bit on various sections and locations of 1.5 X 1.5 square tube steel. This was being done to provide more clearance for bolts being used to connect sections of the mobile frame together. The TM had drilled out 21 holes previous to the final hole.

What happened

TM was standing in a scissor lift drilling out an existing 3 8 clearance hole with a 1 2 drill bit. The TM had their left hand on the battery pack portion of the drill and their right hand on the handle and trigger portion of the drill. While drilling out the 22nd and final hole the drill bit bound up in the material and kicked back forcefully twisting the body of the drill and fracturing two bones in the right hand of the TM.

Object or substance involved

The forceful twisting jolting of the body of the drill being held by the TM. Both the TM and the Witness stated that the TM 's hand was not caught between or struck on top by the drill.

Summary line

The drill the TM was using bound up kicked back and forcefully twisted injuring the right hand of the TM.
