Before the incident
Using a battery-powered cutting tool on the frame of a car to practice extrication of a car crash victim.
What happened
Fire department vehicle extrication training at Zores.While using a battery-operated cutting tool to cut the base of a B-post the tool moved and pinned [REDACTED] 's right hand between the tool and the car door frame. The tool continued to apply pressure until we removed the battery. However [REDACTED] 's right hand remained pinched until we were able to use a battery-operated spreader to relieve the pressure. [REDACTED] then removed his extrication glove and found that his finger was swelling and in pain. We provided two ice packs and transported [REDACTED] to [REDACTED] immediate care facility for x-rays and additional treatment. X-rays were taken and the staff advised him to not use his hand for the [REDACTED]. They stated that they would call him back to let him know the results of his x-rays. They splinted his finger and released him from care. [REDACTED] will return for a follow up visit prior to returning to work on [REDACTED] [REDACTED].
