Before the incident
The associate was in the deli preparing to slice some meat with a knife. They were using a honing steel to hone the edge of the knife they were about to use.
What happened
They were using the steel and knife without a cut glove. The knife slipped off the steel past the guard and caught the associate 's thumb. The knife caused a short but deep cut to the thumb. The wound was bandaged at the store but the associate later went to be treated for the injury after their shift.
