Before the incident
The associate was bringing food waste to the grind2energy machine to dispose of the waste. The food was loaded into a large lug and was rolled over on a cart. The associate struggled to get the lug into the basin making multiple attempts to lift the lug into the waste basin.
What happened
As they finally succeeded into getting the lug on the lip of the basin the associate relaxed and had his thumb under the lip of the lug. The associate let the lug fall the rest of the way to the basin. As the lug fell it caught the associates thumb and bent it back overextending it. The associate ended up leaving work early and seeking treatment.
