Fixing a tool

Filers were preparing the mill for start-up. One of the filers was changing knives in the bottom head when they noticed a bolt had broken off that holds the knife holder in place. They called another filer over the radio and asked him to come out and help. He locked out and then started to assess what he needed to remove the broken bolt. He drilled out the bolt and began using the bolt extractor to remove the bolt. As he turned the bolt extractor with a 4-inch crescent wrench the tool broke off. This caused his hand to slip cutting his left hand on the broken portion of the tool. There were no knives in the segment he was working on. He reported the incident to the on-shift supervisor and was then taken for medical evaluation. He received 7 stitches to the side of his hand under his pinky finger.
