What happened

I was walking with a patient in the hall on 3rd floor [REDACTED] returning toward her room. Patient has been very painful with back pain but is doing better today and ultimately walked 200 feet in room and hall. Due to pain PT has a PCA pump (patient controlled analgesic) and several other pumps on the pole. The IV pole was functioning fine then all of a sudden a wheel seemed to freeze (it displayed this behavior with a nurse also as she took over wheeling the pump). The pole was started to tip and would have struck the patient so I forcefully prevented this with a motion primarily into shoulder external rotation with elbow bent 90 degrees. My L hand was occupied holding patient 's gait belt as she has not walked much the last several [REDACTED] due to back pain. I heard felt a grinding or popping sensation in my anterior R shoulder.
