Assisting to transfer a patient

Employee written statement is as follows: Brought an outpatient into CT2 and went to assist patient with stand-and-pivot maneuver to transfer from wheelchair to CT table. Patient put significantly more weight then was expected on me (felt close to full body weight) pulling straight downward to lift himself up and requiring me to adjust my stance to avoid losing balance. Patient had been ambulating in main DI waiting area with walker prior to requesting wheelchair so I was not expecting patient to put that much force on me to transfer. Back started hurting shortly afterwards and pain kept increasing attempted to treat with Tylenol and a lidocaine patch with minimal relief ended up clocking out and checking into ER for treatment when muscle spasms increased and started experiencing R lower extremity numbness. Diagnosed in ER with acute muscle strain.

Patient Handling Physical Injury Acute muscle strain lower back right thigh lower extremity numbness.
