Employee had just changed patient 's urinary catheter and was managing the fact that the new catheter did not have the proper equipment with it to close all ports.

. I placed this 3-way catheter in the patient with no assistance and saw I had no cap with the 3-way and no way to clamp the other line. I asked for help and was handed an unknown piece of sterile equipment by [REDACTED] to try to place in the open port. I attempted to place this piece in the open port and it did not fit causing a splash back of urine from this patient to spray up into my nose across my face and into my eyes. The other nurse had left the room at this point so i had to continue holding the open port closed by hand for another 5 minutes before being able to move.
