What happened
Was administering vaccine to child in their right thigh. While they were lying down mother was holding child 's hands and I had my body pressed against child 's legs. Child was screaming and fighting I thought I had the child firmly held but as I went to insert the needle the child continued to squirm and quickly lifted her hip causing me to lose control and superficially scratch the patient 's thigh with the needle that then scratched me. My scratch is at the base of my left thumb between thumb and index finger. I discontinued holding the child and washed my wound thoroughly with soap and water.
