Throwing pitches to the batter

Employee had been into batting practice a good hour and a half and had been feeling good and normal. Employee had then began throwing pitches for the beginning of batting practice. He had thrown his 4th or 5th pitch when he went to throw the next. He stepped down from the mound and threw the next ball but when doing so suddenly felt a stinging stabbing jab sensation at the side of his ankle. He felt it was possibly a rock in his shoe causing the pain so he looked and went to throw again. He felt the same pain and immediately stopped and called for assistance off the field.
