What happened

On [REDACTED] while assessing this patient who was emerging from anesthesia he awoke in an acutely confused and combative state exhibiting forceful arm-swinging and thrashing movements. During my attempt to ensure the patients safety and provide reorientation to calm the patient my wrist became caught between the bed frame side rail and the patients arm. I immediately removed my wrist but experienced a sharp pain radiating from my wrist to my forearm. The patient continued to swing his arms in order to prevent self-injury including potential strikes to his face or eyes I held his arms to maintain safety while continuing efforts to reorient him. During this intervention I felt a popping sensation in my thumb accompanied by radiating pain from my wrist to my forearm.Since the incident the pain has progressively worsened and is aggravated by movements required to perform my regular job duties.
