Before the incident
Employee was first working on a transfer truck repair. Once finished with that task he then switched tasks to perform repair of two damaged aluminum belly dump gates.
What happened
Employee assessed how he would begin to dismantle the gates and determined that he would use an angle grinder affixed with an aluminum back gouging blade. He would perform the work in a seated position using a rolling stool. He successfully dismantled the frame on one of the gates and proceeded to the second gate. The second gate had a dent in the aluminum that needed to be reworked. He had completed 3 4 of the dismantling process when he got to the dented section of aluminum. Due to the depth of the dent the cut could not be completed to depth due to the limitations of the angle grinder blade with guard. Employee decided to remove the guard so that he could get the effective depth and position to make the cut. While in the process of cutting the aluminium material the blade became under tension and suddenly kicked out of his control. Due to workplace positioning and orientation of the tool the tools motion continued until it struck his right leg. Causing a laceration through his cover
