Emergency Department Technician duties

Attempting to put an IV in pt forearm. I hit resistance in the vein when inserting the catheter. I stopped the attempt and when removing the IV cath the needle tip was poked through the cath and did not fully retract. The tip of the iv needle poked my left index finger. Washed hands immediately.
