Associate reports that by IV 20-gauge angio needle used with ultrasound due to difficult stick. Needle was left in field that was partially hidden by overlying gauze pads. Needle was left by resident working who was previously attempting to start IV on pt however unsuccessful. The associate was trying to clean the field and did not see the hidden IV needle and stuck itself on left hand on palmar aspect. Associate reports last hand and reported to ED for evaluation and workup.
