associate was performing aspiration on a pt. the needle did not have a safety mechanism. associate was using one hand recap method. there was no where to push to close the cap on field. Used other hand index finger to push down on cap to close. However the finger tip on left accidentally removed the cap and index finger came down on the sharp end of needle. washed hand with soap and water. there was small puncture site on left 2nd joint space of index finger.
