Banding Pallets

On [REDACTED] HR was notified that the employee had shoulder surgery approved by Workers Compensation. We are waiting for documentation confirming time away and restrictions. The employee had been released from the original [REDACTED] injury with limited use instructions and had been working since. First day away is [REDACTED]. At about [REDACTED] the employee was banding scrap pallets in the Baler room using a 15 lb banding device. The pallet was about 48 inches high and the employee who is 5 ft 6 in could not reach the top. He banded the sides while squatting and resting his right arm on his leg for support. The device shifted and he felt a pop and burning in his shoulder with tingling in two fingers. Pain increased through the night. At [REDACTED] he reported the issue to his supervisor and sought medical care. At the ER X rays were negative. He was given a sling pain medication and placed on modified duty with no shoulder use.
