Employee called on radio to see if other maintenance techs needed any help The other maintenance techs asked for help removing tools Employee got to the [REDACTED] and was standing on the platform He was looking down to shield his eyes from ongoing welding when he suddenly was struck by something on the head (later investigation identified that it was most likely a 4 lb hammer from work being performed above) The hammer had been on pipes about 4 feet above his head Due to his head looking down and the impact to the top of his head the hammer likely struck his head at an angle He was wearing a bump cap The blow caused a small laceration on the top of his head The mill athletic trainer came in to check him out she went through the concussion protocol and he was acceptable He was able to return to work but his shift was over
