Employee first lowered the hoist creating slack in the chain but had not released the latch to allow the hoist to close. Their reaction was to release the latch allowing the lid to fall due to the slack created. Their left hand was still on the latch which then pinched their finger as the lid closed creating a laceration to their ring and middle finger
