Employee was operating the sand hopper to unload sand into the blast pot.

Employees were tasked with refilling a bulk abrasive blastpot with black beauty abrasive media using a portable hopper. The portable hopper was lifted above the bulk abrasive blastpot and held in position with an extended boom forklift during this process. Once the portable hopper was in place ON TOP the employee climbed up the ladder on the blast pot and opened the valve to allow the media to transfer. Once all media was transferred and the hopper was emptied the employee began to descend the fixed ladder. Simultaneously the forklift operator began to boom in. The employees left hand was still on the top rung of the ladder and the bottom of the valve handle pinched the the IEs left hand against the top rung between his ring finger and pinky finger which resulted in a laceration that required medical treatment.
