Luggage search

This writer was conducting a luggage search with a member of staff present. While inspecting a small purple capped item (looked like a small chapstick almost) upon uncapping this writer felt a sharp stick in their index finger of their right hand and immediately observed a small drop of blood forming on the exterior surface of the nitrile gloves utilized as PPE per policy. Writer promptly placed the cap back on the purple device after observing what appeared to be a retractable lancet for diabetic care in the interior of the mechanism. The device and the writer contacted supervising staff and went to the MSU to dispose of the sharp in a sharps container and seek advice and a bandaid.
