Before the incident
A patient was transferred from the emergency department to the unit with the assistance of four staff members who helped move the patient from the stretcher to the bed. During this transfer the patients upper body became caught on the stretcher. Following the completion of the transfer the employees experienced soreness in their backs and shoulders ultimately leading to a sharp pain in the mid-back that radiated through to the front of the patients chest.
