Before the incident
During the cutting operation the weight of the pipe started applying pressure to the saw blade and eventually pinched the blade of the saw; causing the chop saw to bind and kick back towards the worker.
What happened
At approximately [REDACTED]; an FMCC employee was working on an emergency water main break; performing excavation at a depth of 4 '6; a width of 5 '4; and a length of 12 '4.While cutting a 6 Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) with a diamond blade chop saw; the saw cut through the pipe; causing the pipe to pinch the blade. This resulted in a kickback; which caused the employee to fall backward. During the incident; the chop saw kicked back striking the worker in the face. Contacted the employees right cheek; causing a laceration.

Right side of the lower face approx 3 to 4 inches.
Object or substance involved
The body of the chop saw. Exact location of the body of the saw was not able to be determined from the worker due to how quickly the chain of events occurred.
