During the cutting operation the weight of the pipe started applying pressure to the saw blade and eventually pinched the blade of the saw; causing the chop saw to bind and kick back towards the worker.

At approximately [REDACTED]; an FMCC employee was working on an emergency water main break; performing excavation at a depth of 4 '6; a width of 5 '4; and a length of 12 '4.While cutting a 6 Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) with a diamond blade chop saw; the saw cut through the pipe; causing the pipe to pinch the blade. This resulted in a kickback; which caused the employee to fall backward. During the incident; the chop saw kicked back striking the worker in the face. Contacted the employees right cheek; causing a laceration.
