Before the incident
Attempting to reconnect dislodged magnet connectors to crane #5
What happened
TM was called to assist with reconnecting power cables to the lifting magnet on Crane #5. During the task TM did not verify that the magnet circuit had been de-energized prior to handling the connectors. While attempting to reconnect the twist-lock magnet connectors under live conditions an electrical arc occurred resulting in burns to both of TM’s hands. Nearby personnel responded immediately and provided first aid while first responders were notified. TM was transported to urgent care for medical evaluation. TM was treated and diagnosed with minor electrical burn injuries to both hands. TM was released the same day and sent home to recover. Maintenance was notified and Crane #5 was taken out of service for inspection. Upon evaluation the crane and magnet control circuits were found to be functioning properly with no mechanical or electrical faults. The crane was cleared and returned to service.
