Before the incident
A post-op patient was laying in bed in the PACU department and I needed to raise the head of the bedI so the patient could sit up. The patient 's surgery prohibited him from being able to exert or strain so he could not scoot himself up higher in bed on his own. I was assisting with moving the patient up higher in bed. The patient was laying flat on the bed and I was on one side of the bed and another nurse was on the other side. We scooted the patient up higher in the bed together two times so that the patient was in an appropriate position and place on the bed that we could raise the head of the bed up higher and he could sit up in bed. After those movements my back was hurting even when I was at rest sitting down and charting.
