PICC process started per VAT program directives. pts condition was indicative of symptoms related to substance withdrawal (tremors inability to stay still) Pts arm positioned in an effort to minimize risk as much as possible. Accessed patients brachial vein with introducer needle before I could insert the guidewire patient that arm up and reach over with the other arm causing needle to become unsecure and projectile and landing location unknown. While trying to secure the sterile field and locate needle patient continued to be uncooperative pushing my arm into the needle which had landed in the sterile picc tray.
