Before the incident
Employee was cutting off welded lifting lugs from steel stair stringer.
What happened
Employee was working on a completed set of steel stairs flush mounted against a concrete wall. The procedure he was following for previous lug removals was to cut the welds partially through then use a hammer to fully remove the lug. The employee cut further through the lug on this removal and the lug fell freely unexpectedly. When the lug became loose the employee took his second hand off the grinder to grab the lug. The .045 wheel snagged his glove and pulled finger against the grinder guard.
