Before the incident
The mechanic was troubleshooting an upset condition where the straps were breaking on pallets. The mechanic had removed the covers to expose the belts and pulleys and had been watching the strapper head cycle through motion from a distance.
What happened
THE MECHANIC PLACED HIS HAND ON THE STRAP TO FEEL TENSION AND HIS HAND WAS PULLED INTO THE BELT AND PULLEY BY THE UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT OF THE STRAPPER HEAD. The mechanic had not locked out the strapperhead before interacting with the belts and pulleys
