Before the incident
He completed purging a 5-gallon cylinder in fume hood #. He then opened the fume hood sash and placed the cylinder on the floor.
What happened
The sash on the hood is estimated to be about 95% closed. The LPG Vapor was visibly present in the fume hood and being drawn out of the building from the exhaust. Some vapor was also exiting the unit from the open sash. Once the canopy was fully opened the remaining vapor exited the hood entered the lab environment. Once in contact with a GC heat source a flash fire occurred.
