What happened
EE was cleaning instruments on a synthes locking instrument set and felt a sharp pinch on his left middle finger when he held the universal T-handle chuck instrument. He finished cleaning the rest of the instruments. EE then removed his gloves and noticed a fine hair like metal splinter about 2 10 cm long sticking out of his left middle finger. EE attempted to remove the metal splinter with his right hand but was unable to remove the splinter. EE was able to remove the metal splinter using tweezers he found. Once removed he did notice blood at the tip of the splinter. At that time he applied pressure to his left middle finger to try and squeeze out any remaining pieces that may remain. EE stated he had no more pain after and used alcohol sanitizer and betadine at the site. He notified his charge RN ([REDACTED]) and went to the Emergency Room to have his labs drawn.
