What happened
Employee was drawing blood on a patient using a butterfly vacutainer and got to the 3rd tube and the patients vein blew which caused the patient to jerk and the butterfly stuck the employee on the right wrist. Employee followed post needlestick protocol with infection control but did not submit work injury report to HR timely and department failed to notify HR as well. Department manager did address employee to ensure proper handling and safety practices are being used during blood draws.
