Before the incident
removing port from patient trying to put in the sharps container safety was not engaged and poked left index finger.
What happened
This RN removed patient port and when attempting to place used port into the sharps container the port bounced against the side of the opening of the container and flipped over puncturing the first finger on the left hand through the glove. The puncture site bleed immediately. Site was washed and cleaned with CHG.
