Before the incident
On [REDACTED] at around [REDACTED] a Maintenance Mechanic was using a [REDACTED] 4 hand grinder to clean the surface of some flat metal in preparation for welding of some angle iron During the process of grinding the grinding rock came apart in 3 big pieces striking the employee on the left hand The employee immediately reported the incident and was taken to the Medical Building for treatment It was determined by the mill nurse that further medical treatment was needed The injured employee was transported to the [REDACTED] where xrays taken The xrays indicated that the employee sustained multiple fractures in the top part of the hand The attending ER physician recommended the employee be transferred to a level 1 trauma center where he can be seen by an orthopedic surgeon for repair to the fractured bones The employee has been transferred to the LSU Medical Center in [REDACTED] Additional Notes Employee was using all required PPE to include o Cut level 9 gloves o Hard Hat o Safety Glass
