Before the incident
Employee was melting chocolate on the bottom plate and rollers on the decorator with a heat gun. The chocolate on the non-operator side wasn 't flowing. Employee shut off the wire decorator belt that runs over the top of the bottoming rollers. He left the bottoming roller and the chocolate feed pump on to see if he could stimulate flow. He then moved the plate back for a visual of the bottoming roller.
What happened
Unable to see the blockage the employee out his finger through the wire mesh belt and started to wipe away excess chocolate on the pipe and the roller to get a better visual to locate the issue. As he was feeling around he felt the hole open and close (feeling the actuation of the cleaning pipe inside the chocolate feed pipe for the bottoming rollers. As he was feeling around the actuation closed on his finger.

Laceration to his right index finger. Amputation at the first knuckle.
