Drawing blood from arterial line for blood sugar check
What happened
pt was under sterile drape for chest tube insertion. I was drawing blood from the arterial line for a blood sugar check while the primary nurse was assisting with the procedure. While i was pulling up on the plunger of the insulin syringe I accidentally pulled the needle from the rubber stopper and stuck my thumb in the process.
