Before the incident
This RN bent over to the right side in order to push the hold alarm button with the right hand prior to getting the patient up. It was during this movement that the RN felt a pop on the left side of the back extending from the middle of the spine to the left lateral flank.
What happened
2 RNs were present to assist the patient to a comode as the pt is a 2 person assist with walker gait-belt. The chair was about 3 inches from the bed and the posey box was on the ground near the wall in the back of the room. This RN bent over to the right side in order to push the hold alarm button with the right hand prior to getting the patient up.
