Before the incident
patient stated that she was having uneasy thoughts and asked if I could sit with her and talk. When we finished talking about how she was feeling and I told her it was the end of my shift and that I would be leaving she become upset
What happened
patient attempted to swallow a foreign body when I stated it was the end of my shift. I then had to urgently remove the foreign body from her mouth before she swallowed which resulted in a skin tear below my left thumb nail bed. The patient bit down as I attempted to remove the marker cap
